BENJAMIN NELSON (B. 1982) MIXED MEDIA ON PAPER - Ben Nelson Aka Ahn Hia Ohm (Kiowa Born 1982) 1999 The original mixed media painting signed Ahn Hia Ohm, Ben Nelson and dated 1999 lower right front was, according to the consignors, commissioned by them to include an American flag at their request. This painting was completed when Ahn Hia Ohm was 15 years old. Three years earlier when he was 12, his work was featured on the cover of Indian Artist Magazine. Ahn Hia Ohm, Kiowa for ''He knows'', is the son of Yellowman, another famous Kiowa artist whom the consignors admired. Two Yellowman paintings from their collection are included in this auction as well. Ahn Hia Ohm's works are inspired by the renown 'ledger art' that captive Plains Indians executed on lined paper using colored pencils in the 1870s. Sight size measures 14.75 x 21.75 with a framed size of 20.25 x 27.25 inches.
