ALFRED MONTGOMERY (1857-1922) OIL ON ARTIST'S BOARD - Alfred E A Montgomery (Kansas, 1857-1922) Wood Baskets with Corn 1900 The still life composition depicting ears of corn, each kernel depicted individually in thick impasto, portrays the bounty spilling from 'bushel' baskets of bent wood stave construction having bent wood handles secured by iron fittings. This is a particularly bold example of the artist's trademark subject matter. The ears tumble convincingly from the basket and are bright and heavily textured for striking effect.
