19th Century Indo-Persian Qajar Khula-Khud Helmet with Engraved Floral Decoration, Spike and Chain Mail Aventail - A handsome 19th century Indo-Persian khula-khud helmet, of the type associated with Persia and northern India during the Qajar period. The hemispherical steel skull is extensively decorated with finely engraved floral and foliate ornament, arranged in broad horizontal bands around the dome. The decoration is particularly dense and attractive, with repeated flowering sprays covering much of the exterior surface. The crown is fitted with a tall, tapering central spike, rising from a scalloped circular base. The front retains the characteristic fittings for the sliding nasal guard, together with the associated securing hardware. The nasal bar itself appears absent. Around the lower edge is an attached chain-mail aventail, formed of numerous interlinked iron rings and extending around the sides and rear to protect the neck and shoulders. The mail survives in substantial quantity, though with areas of separation, losses and oxidation visible. Diameter : 14”.
