Japanese WWII Occupation Police Sidearm with Scabbard - Japanese police or occupation authority sidearm dating to the World War II period, housed in its original nickel-plated steel scabbard with suspension ring. The hilt features gilt brass mounts with black rayskin-covered grip secured by twisted brass wire, and is decorated with the Imperial Japanese Police insignia on the pommel. The distinctive brass crossguard terminates in circular quillons, while the straight, single-edged blade retains its original profile with visible age patina and scattered oxidation. These swords were carried by members of the Japanese police, colonial constabulary, and civil officials serving throughout the Japanese Empire, including occupied China, Korea, Taiwan, Manchuria, and other territories during the late 1930s and Second World War. Unlike military officer swords, these police sidearms were intended as symbols of governmental authority as much as functional weapons.
