Striking 18th Century Hungarian Hussar Saber with Damascus Blade & Mounted Scabbard - A striking 18th century Hungarian hussar saber, displaying strong Eastern European and Ottoman-influenced characteristics. The sword features a broad, gently curved pattern-welded / Damascus steel blade, with the layered watering clearly visible along much of its length. The hilt is fitted with an engraved iron or steel crossguard with long, slightly tapering quillons and a distinctive pistol-form grip. The grip retains dark covering with visible age and wear, terminating in an engraved metal pommel cap. Accompanied by its original or period textile-covered wooden scabbard, extensively mounted with engraved white-metal fittings, suspension rings, reinforcing bands, and a decorative elongated chape. The scabbard construction and ornament are particularly characteristic of Hungarian and neighboring Central European military and aristocratic arms of the 18th century. A highly decorative and unusual example, particularly desirable for its visible Damascus blade, complete scabbard, extensive engraved mounts, and strong hussar form.
