18th Century Indian Tulwar with Pattern-Welded Blade - A fine 18th-century Indian tulwar featuring a long, gently curved single-edged steel blade with a visible watered or pattern-welded surface, showing a subtle flowing grain throughout. The sword is fitted with a characteristic Indo-Persian iron hilt of tulwar form, with disc pommel, integral grip, and downturned quillons. The hilt is extensively decorated with engraved and punched floral, geometric, and foliate ornament, including patterned panels across the grip, guard, and pommel. The blade is broad at the forte and gradually tapers toward a rounded, upswept point. The overall form is consistent with North Indian or possibly Afghan manufacture, though the hilt construction is more strongly associated with the Indian tulwar tradition. The surface shows age-consistent oxidation, staining, light pitting, rubbing, and wear throughout. Total length : 33 3/4”, Blade length : 23 3/4”.
