VLADIMIR CHUB (RUSSIAN/UZBEK, B. 1940) OIL PAINTING ”IN THE EVENING” - Vladimir Chub (Russian/Uzbek, b. 1940), ”In the Evening” (ÐеÑеÑ& ETH;¾Ð¼). Oil on board. Signed in Cyrillic lower right. Inscribed in Cyrillic on the reverse with the artistâs name, title, medium and dimensions. A richly colored composition by Vladimir Chub depicting a seated figure viewed from within a shaded interior or veranda, looking outward across a sunlit Central Asian landscape. The dark architectural framework surrounding the opening creates a natural frame within the painting, contrasting dramatically with the luminous landscape beyond. Slender trees and dense vegetation rise among scattered houses, their warm ochre roofs emerging from an expansive field of blue-green foliage. The seated figure occupies the lower right foreground, partially enveloped in shadow. This juxtaposition between the dark, intimate interior and the brilliant exterior landscape gives the composition a contemplative quality and a pronounced sense of depth. Chub organizes the distant village through interlocking areas of turquoise, green, blue and yellow, while warm ochres and oranges provide rhythmic accents throughout the scene. The work demonstrates Chub's characteristic interest in the landscape and everyday life of Uzbekistan while employing a strongly modernist approach to color and spatial construction. The landscape is not treated topographically; instead, trees, rooftops and distant hills are reduced to simplified masses of color. The surrounding architectural elements further emphasize the impression of looking outward from a cool, shaded space into the warmth and light of the landscape. The reverse bears handwritten Cyrillic inscriptions identifying V. I. Chub, the title ÐеÑеÑ&E TH;¾Ð¼ (In the Evening), the medium as oil on board, and dimensions of approximately 40 x 49.5 cm. A faded institutional ink stamp is also present on the reverse. Vladimir Chub was born in the Kuban region in 1940 and studied painting in Rostov-on-Don and later at the 1905 Memorial Art School in Moscow. He arrived in Tashkent in 1966 during reconstruction following the earthquake and subsequently made Uzbekistan his permanent home. Working as a painter, sculptor, mosaicist and monumental artist, Chub participated in numerous major architectural and decorative projects, including Tashkent Airport, the Institute of Irrigation, the Benkov Art School, Hotel Uzbekistan, the Uzbekistan Sanatorium in Sochi, and projects in Khiva and Shahimardan. He later developed and patented his own hot encaustic technique and received the Gold Medal of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan. His paintings are represented in galleries and private collections internationally, including Germany, France, Israel, the United States and Japan.
