VLADIMIR CHUB (RUSSIAN/UZBEK, B. 1940) OIL PAINTING, ”SIDJAK”, 1980 - Vladimir Chub (Russian/Uzbek, b. 1940), ”Sidjak”, 1980. Oil on board. Signed in Cyrillic ”В. Чуб” lower right. Inscribed in Cyrillic on the reverse with the artist’s name, title and date 1980. An evocative early work by Vladimir Chub depicting figures within a quiet, tree-lined urban courtyard. A woman dressed in vivid red stands beside a child in the foreground, while another figure appears near the architecture at left. Chub constructs the scene through broad, expressive passages of color, simplifying the trees, buildings and figures into strongly defined painterly forms. Muted blue, green, ochre and earth tones dominate the composition, punctuated by the brilliant red of the central figure. The reverse retains an original paper label from the ”Central Salon of the Art Fund of Uzbekistan, Tashkent”, identifying the artist as ”V. Chub”, the work as ”Sidjak”, and recording dimensions of 38 x 50 cm. Additional handwritten inscriptions on the reverse identify ”V. I. Chub”, the title, and the date ”1980”. Vladimir Chub was born in the Kuban region in 1940 and studied painting in Rostov-on-Don and at the 1905 Memorial Art School in Moscow. He arrived in Tashkent in 1966 during the reconstruction following the devastating earthquake and subsequently made Uzbekistan his permanent home. Chub became active both as an easel painter and monumental artist, participating in important architectural and decorative projects throughout Uzbekistan and elsewhere, including work associated with Tashkent Airport, the Institute of Irrigation, the Benkov Art School, Hotel Uzbekistan, and projects in Khiva and Shahimardan. He later developed and patented his own hot encaustic technique and was awarded the Gold Medal of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan.
