VLADIMIR CHUB (B. 1940) UZBEK / SOVIET LANDSCAPE OIL PAINTING - Vladimir Chub (Russian/Uzbek, b. 1940). Original oil on canvas depicting a sunlit Central Asian landscape with houses nestled among dense trees and rolling hills. Signed and dated lower right, ”В. Чуб 1991” (V. Chub, 1991). The reverse retains an original exhibition/inventory label from the Central Exhibition Hall of the Art Fund of Uzbekistan, Tashkent, identifying the artist as V. Chub, with the dimensions 60 x 60 cm and additional handwritten inventory information. Vladimir Chub was born in the Kuban region in 1940. He studied painting in Rostov-on-Don and later in Moscow at the 1905 Memorial Art School (МоскÐ&frac 34;вско&ET H;µ худоÐ&p ara;ествРµÐ½Ð½Ð¾Ð ;µ училÐ&ce dil;ще памя&Ntil de;‚и 1905 года). In 1966, Chub came to Tashkent during the reconstruction of the city following the devastating earthquake of that year and subsequently made Uzbekistan his permanent home. Chub became particularly known as a painter and monumental artist, producing major decorative and monumental works for prominent architectural projects in Tashkent and elsewhere in the former Soviet Union. His commissions included works for the Tashkent airport, the Institute of Irrigation, the Benkov Art School, Hotel Uzbekistan, the Uzbekistan Sanatorium in Sochi, as well as architectural projects in Khiva and Shahimardan. Working across painting, monumental art, sculpture and mosaic, Chub also developed and patented his own technique of hot encaustic painting. He was awarded the Gold Medal of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan. His easel paintings have entered galleries and private collections internationally, including collections in Germany, France, Israel, the United States and Japan. The present work is a characteristic example of Chub's expressive landscape painting, constructed through vigorous, visible brushwork and a rich palette dominated by greens, turquoise, ochre and warm earth tones. Oil on canvas. Size: 23 1/2 x 23 1/2 in. (59.7 x 59.7 cm), unframed. Date: 1991. For additional images please visit sofedesignauctions.com Detailed condition reports are not included in this catalog.
