Russian Orthodox Icon of Christ Pantocrator with Saints, 18th–19th Century - A substantial Russian Orthodox icon depicting Christ Pantocrator, shown frontally with a cruciform halo, his right hand raised in blessing and his left hand holding an open Gospel Book. The open text is rendered in Church Slavonic. Christ is flanked by two smaller standing saints within narrow side panels. Painted in tempera on a prepared wood panel with a gilt ground, the icon retains strong traditional coloration in red, green, black, and gold. The reverse is fitted with two horizontal wooden battens. The icon shows considerable age and devotional wear, including vertical age cracks, craquelure, abrasions, areas of pigment and gesso loss, darkening, edge wear, and numerous old insect holes visible on the reverse. Despite the condition issues, the central image remains strong and highly decorative. Size: 11 3/5” x 14”.
