Exceptional Imperial German Kriegerverein Banner of Empfingen, c.1890-1914, Hand-Painted & Gold Bullion Embroidery - An exceptionally decorative Imperial German veterans' association (Kriegerverein) silk banner dating to the late Imperial period, circa 1890–1914. The obverse displays the inscription ”Krieger-Verein” above the crowned Imperial eagle bearing the royal cipher ”R.” The eagle grasps the imperial orb and scepter and is surrounded by beautifully hand-painted oak and laurel branches symbolizing military valor and victory. The lower portion is inscribed ”Empfingen” with the date 1910, commemorating the local veterans' association. The reverse features a finely executed depiction of Saint George slaying the dragon, accompanied by the patriotic German motto: ”Mit Gott für König u. Vaterland”(”With God for King and Fatherland.”) Both sides exhibit remarkably detailed hand-painted artwork enhanced with extensive gold bullion embroidery, ornate scrolling decoration, and finely executed floral motifs. The rich black, white, and red Imperial German national colors make for an impressive display piece. Unlike military regimental standards carried into combat, Kriegerverein banners were ceremonial flags used by local veterans' organizations during parades, commemorations, funerals, patriotic celebrations, and reunions.
