American 1842 US Navy Cutlass Naval Sword by N.P. Ames - American 1842 US Navy Cutlass Naval Sword by N.P. Ames Cabotville Massachusetts, Unit marked guard. Solid brass hilt with fish-scaled grip and carved US Eagle to both sides of the pommel, guard featuring a unit number 124. Robust broad double edged blade well marked USN 1842 and to Ames maker on reverse. Very good condition and a serious weapon probably used all the way up to and possibly through the American Civil War era. Total length 27”, length of the blade - 21.25”
