18th C. American Revolution era Naval Cutlass made from - 18th C. American Revolution era Naval Cutlass made from a Scottish Basket Hilt Sword. Very cool example most likely used through the American Revolution as a naval boarding sword, period crafted by a sailor or Pirate, using an 18th century Scottish basket-guard and a shorter lightly curved blade typical to those used by seamen, with an interesting self made tubular metal grip filled and mounted with melted lead at pommel and ferrule area. Poor condition showing extensive patina and pitting typical to salt water exposion and extensive use of this interesting weapon with much historic character and many bloody sea-battle stories to tell...Total length including scabbard ( when scabbard is present) - 30”. Length of the blade - 24.75”.
