18th C. English or American, Revolution era Navy Naval - 18th C. English or American, Revolution era Navy Naval Officer's Rapier Sword. Scarce variation of the 18th century English or American naval officer's rapier, having gold gilt brass mounts with two anchors engraved to the outside of the disked guard, having a fine shark skin grip with twisted silver wire. Mounted with a sturdy thrusting blade of triangular section, retaining good original steel color with light patina throughout. Good condition considering the age, with its metal scabbard, possibly of copper with black paint finish and gilt brass mounts en suite with the hilt. Rare and seldom encountered example of the Revolutionary war era navy officer's weapon.Total length including scabbard ( when scabbard is present) - 32”. Length of the blade - 25.75”.
