19th C. English Sheffield Made Dirk Bowie Knife for - 19th C. English Sheffield Made Dirk Bowie Knife for American Market, Etched and Blued Blade. A scarce example with a double-edged blade of diamond section, once entirely blued and gilt, now showing considerable ware. One side with etched panels, depicting a motto: ”FOR THE PROTECTION” among floral scrolls. Ricasso struck with maker's name. In German silver mounts with fine, but tired grip and elaborate details to the pommel. Overall length: 10 1/4”. Blade length: 6”
