Very Good 17th-18th C. Italian ”Squavona” Basket Hilt - Very Good 17th-18th C. Italian ”Squavona” Basket Hilt Broad Sword Rapier. A good early example with a large steel basket guard of intricate and complex pattern with some sort of a signature on one of the branches, which is very unusual to see on this type of swords. Original leather covered grip topped with a large steel cats head pommel. Mounted with a broad and very powerful double edged blade of hexagonal section, both side with maker marks to the lower ricasso and faint inscriptions to the lower blade. Overall length 38 3/4” Blade length 32 1/4”.
