18th C. Spanish ”Bilbao” Rapier Sword, possibly used in - With its steel hilt mounts having distinctive kidney shaped half-cup guard and long cross guard with chisel finials, braid wire grip with elegant ovoid pommel. Mounted with a double edged unfullered blade of oval cross section, one side of ricasso bearing struck maker marks. Rich patina and light wear overall, good condition considering the age, most likely used through American revolutionary war as some similar documented examples. Overall length: 43 1/2”. Blade length: 35 1/4”
