Rare 16th-17th C. Transitional Swept Hilt Rapier Sword, - Rare 16th-17th C. Transitional Swept Hilt Rapier Sword, German or Italian. An early transitional type on its evolution way from a knightly sword to a lighter version of swept-hilt rapier type, most likely to date from the late 1500s. With its powerful broad double edged blade of diamond section, maker marked to ricasso. Hilt with a series of strong ring guards and leather bound grip.
