Meissen 'Boy With Grapes' Porcelain Figure - Marked on the bottom.    Dimensions: 4” Tall x 2” Wide x 1 1/2” Deep   Condition: The figure is in very good condition. No chips or cracks. See images for details.    About: Meissen was established in 1710 by Augustus the Strong, after Johann Friedrich Bottger produced Europe's first true hard-paste porcelain, and its crossed-swords mark — in use from 1720 — is one of the oldest trademarks in existence. Johann Joachim Kandler, chief modeller from 1733, effectively founded porcelain figure sculpture as an art form. Children and putti were an enormous ongoing genre at the factory, from Kandler's Rococo wine-growing children to the neoclassical Seasons groups Michel Victor Acier introduced after 1764 and which were reissued through the nineteenth century. A boy with grapes belongs to that vintage and Autumn iconography.
