He works squarely in the American sporting-art tradition, with stylistic ties to earlier sporting painters such as Ogden Pleissner and A.B. Frost. Reneson's distinctive wet-into-wet technique and pared-down compositions have made him one of the most recognizable names in late-20th-century American sporting art. His prints and original watercolors are widely collected within the sporting-art market.
