This image belongs to the ”La Jolla Birdwomen, ” a group of eleven known paintings gently spoofing the fashionable women of Geisel's La Jolla social circle; he described himself as a bird watcher on the social scene, and the series is characterized by long, deadpan comic titles. The authorized editions program was launched in 1997 by Chaseart Companies under Dr. Seuss Enterprises, with plates and screens destroyed at the close of each edition; the editions are posthumous and carry an authorized printed signature rather than one by Geisel's hand.
