See images for details.    Artist Bio: Rufino Tamayo (1899–1991) was born in Oaxaca of Zapotec descent, and in the 1920s headed the department of ethnographic drawing at Mexico's National Museum of Archaeology, where drawing pre-Hispanic objects gave him the formal vocabulary that runs through his whole career. He stood deliberately apart from the explicit political program of Rivera, Orozco and Siqueiros, arguing for formal and poetic concerns instead, and built a manner of semi-abstract figures and animals in shallow, luminous space, worked in a dense, earthy, heavily textured palette. Dogs and howling animals are among his recurring subjects. From 1973 he worked with Luis Remba to develop the Mixografia process — invented specifically so Tamayo could carry the surface texture of his paintings into an edition.
