Otherwise, the painting is in good condition. Minor surface marks to the frame. Bidders are encouraged to examine the lot in person or request additional images and to form their own opinion prior to bidding.    Artist Bio: Ang Kiukok (1931–2005) studied at the University of Santo Tomas under Vicente Manansala, the decisive influence on him and the conduit for Philippine Cubism, and was named a National Artist of the Philippines in 2001. His mature idiom is a figurative expressionism built on Cubist faceting and Expressionist distortion: figures fractured into angular planes, drawn with a confident black contour line that comes out of the calligraphy he learned at his Chinese high school in Davao, pressed into compressed and claustrophobic space in saturated reds and hot yellows against black. Fish is his most enduring motif, tied to his Chinese heritage and characteristically reduced toward the skeletal, with bones, spines and fins exposed beneath or instead of scales — austere and melancholy rather than decorative.
