Evert Pieters 'Apple Peeling' Oil on Canvas - Signed and dated lower right.  Date: 1911   Image: 45 1/2” x 35”  Frame: 57” x 47”    Condition: Crazing is mostly confined to the top-left corner. The painting and frame are in overall good condition.    Artist Bio: Evert Pieters (1856–1932) was a Dutch Impressionist of the Laren School. Poverty put him to work as a house painter as a child; at nineteen he went to Antwerp, attending evening classes at the Royal Academy and studying under the Belgian landscape painter Theodoor Verstraete, and after his marriage in 1895 he traveled to Paris and Barbizon, an exposure to French Impressionism that loosened his handling permanently. He is best known for sunlit farmhouse interiors with mothers and children — exactly this genre — and for beach and fisherfolk scenes painted at Katwijk aan Zee. The interiors found their strongest market with American collectors.
