About: Unique Art Glass & Metal Company was an American maker of leaded shades working from the late 1890s into the early twentieth century, founded on fixture designs George W. Bayley began patenting in 1889. Its shades were built by the copper-foil method rather than lead came — the same technique Tiffany Studios used — with naturalistic floral patterns including wisteria, poppy, peony and dogwood. The company never signed its lamps and no factory catalogue has surfaced, which is why examples are attributed on construction, glass selection and base form rather than on a mark.
