Emile Galle 'Landscape' Cameo Gourd Vase - Signed by the artist.    Dimensions: 5 3/4” Tall x 4 1/2” Wide x 2 1/4” Deep   Condition: There is a fleabite chip to the bottom edge of the vase. Overall, the vase is in good condition.    About: Emile Galle (1846–1904) founded the Ecole de Nancy and was the central figure of French Art Nouveau glass. He was a trained horticulturist who worked from live specimens in his own garden, which is why his flowers are botanically accurate rather than merely decorative. The firm went on producing Galle-signed cameo glass after his death until it closed in 1936; a star beside the signature marks the 1905–08 window specifically. Landscape subjects — layered trees, water and distant hills in silhouette against a graded ground — are among the most sought of the acid-etched cameo designs, and the gourd form gives the design a continuous surface to travel across.
