Daum Nancy ”Violets” Cameo Vase - Signed by the artist.    Dimensions: 3 3/4” x 1 1/4” x 1 1/4”    Condition: There is a small indentation along the bottom edge, it is unclear if this is a chip to the glass or a natural formation. Minor spots of discoloration to the clear glass. See images for details.    About: Daum, founded at Nancy in 1878, was with Galle one of the two great Art Nouveau glasshouses of Lorraine and a founding member of the Ecole de Nancy in 1901. Its work is more painterly and atmospheric than Galle's, built on mottled grounds, acid etching in successive bites, and fired enamel and gilding. Signatures date it: “Daum Nancy” before 1924, “Daum Nancy France” with the Croix de Lorraine from 1924 to 1945, and plain “Daum France” after. Violets are a recurring Daum subject around 1900, worked in cameo and in fired enamel.
