About: René Lalique (1860–1945) was the leading Art Nouveau jeweler in Paris before he turned to glass, and his frosted relief set against clear ground became one of the defining looks of Art Deco. Pieces from his lifetime are signed “R. Lalique”; production after his death in 1945, under his son Marc, is marked “Lalique France.” Birds run all through Lalique's output, from the sparrows on the tableware patterns to free-standing figures, modelled so the frosted surface catches light against the polished ground.
