About: Harry Winston (1896-1978) founded his New York firm in 1932 and built it around exceptional colored and colorless diamonds, working as both a dealer in historic stones and a designer of settings that minimized visible metal. He is closely associated with the Hope Diamond, which he acquired in 1949 and donated to the Smithsonian Institution in 1958. The house has since used the Hope name for jewelry, including a limited-edition bracelet and a related charm in white gold with engraved mother-of-pearl centered by a single Winston diamond, issued in connection with a charitable giving program.
