Artist Bio: Andy Peterson, also known as Andy Wilbur-Peterson (b. 1955), is a Northwest Coast artist born in Shelton, Washington, of Skokomish and Squaxin descent and a Skokomish tribal member. He works in the Central Coast Salish tradition, which he studied from museum holdings and from pieces by his great-grandfather, the Skokomish carver Henry Allen. He assisted the basket-makers Louisa Pulsifer and Emily Miller and collaborated with Makah artist Greg Colfax on a welcome figure. He carves red cedar bentwood boxes, panels, paddles and masks using Pacific Northwest animal motifs including raven, salmon and whale.
