Artist bio: Abastenia St. Leger Eberle (1878-1942) was an American sculptor known for her dynamic, socially conscious works, often depicting the struggles and vitality of working-class women and children. Her best-known piece, The White Slave (1913), challenged societal norms by addressing the exploitation of young women. Eberle's sculptures, rooted in the early 20th-century realism movement, brought attention to social issues through her expressive, fluid depictions of human figures.
