Sterling Silver Mounted Horse Saddle Mgm Studios - This Spectacular Saddle Sometimes Referred To As A Parade Sale Is The Finest One We Have Ever Sold. It Comes With Provenance. It Was Purchased At A David Weisz Auction. The Sale Was Marketed As A ”{public Auction Of The Countless Treasures Acquired From Mgm, Metro Goldwyn Mayer”. I Believe The Sale Was Located In Beverly Hills, Ca At The Studios. The Studio Was Having An Auction To Liquidate A Large Portion Of It's Old, Antique, And Vintage Movie Props. The Consignor States That Her Father Bought The Saddle And Other Props. He Had His Brother Drive Out To California To Go To The Auction To Buy And Bring Back Lots To Pennsylvania. She Also States That This Particular Saddle Was Used By A Well Known Movie Star From The Period Of Silent Film And Early Films From The Early Period Of Hollywood. His Name Was Tom Mix. He Was Considered The First Western Movies Star He Was Born In Pennsylvania In 1880. He Appeared In Over 291 Movies 1909-1935 All But Nine Were Silent Movies. Saddle Was Located In The Family Barn For About 50 Years. Cleaned It Up A Bit, There Are About 2 Of The Silver Placards Missing But The Rest Are All Accounted For. Upon Doing The Research, I Will Attribute The Maker Of This Saddle To Visalia Stock Company, San Francisco, Ca But You Can Come To Your Own Conclusions. They Were The Premier Saddle Making Company Of The Day With Trained Silversmiths. (4) silver placards are missing from matching sides of the saddle; we believe this was done intentionally for the comfort of the rider.
