Pre-Columbian Axe head - Pre-Columbian, ca. 500 to 1000 AD. A hand-carved stone axe (turned pendant) depicting a figure and either water or air designs. This nearly Jade has etched lines. Size: 5.5” long x 2.5” tall Provenance: From a Philadelphia estate. She mainly collected Chinese, Navajo, Pre-Columbian artifacts, jewelry, and rugs. Passed to her son, then to us for auction The stones figure is believed to be symbolic of agricultural fertility and was carved with images of figures/deities or wind/water, which would imbue powers to the owner.
