UPDATED: Lenin at Smolny: Soviet Realism OOC -  UPDATED PROVENANCE: Original oil on canvas replica of the masterwork - Lenin in Smolny in 1917 - by Brodsky. Completed under contract for Affairs of the Arts USSR Dimensions: 5 feet 6 inches wide x 4 feet high. The painting, Lenin in Smolny by Isaak Brodsky (1883-1939), became an iconic artwork symbolizing the early years of Soviet Realism. The painting was done after Lenin's death and was intended to canonize the image of the leader of the world proletariat. Part of a collection believed to be from the Russian Embassy in Mexico, removed most likely during the renovation in the early 1990s ( 1991-94) after the fall of the USSR, at the time of the formation of The Russian Federation. Later discovered in California when the consignor paid in excess of six figures for the set.
