1870s Day Ledger and Scrap Book: Rosendale, Ulster County NY: Mercantile -    1870s Day Ledger and Scrap Book: Rosendale, Ulster County NY: Mercantile Over 500 pages of entries related to the daily accounts of families and industry in the Booming town that supported the Famous Rosendale Cement Mines and production that built NYC in the late 1800s and early 1900.  The first 20 pages are devoted to pasted-in news clippings, a sympathy card, poems cut from publications, and of note a news story of the tragic love between ” Two Feeble-Minded” young people from the Creeklocks and Esopus areas whose romance ended tragically. Multiple well-known family surnames from the area are represented among this primary source documentation of life in 1870-1873. Leather cover over .25 inch thick paper boards, four ridge sewn spine, ( unusually )blue pages with red collum lines and blue entry lines, each number on an upper corner in bold blue numerals. Handwritten entries in fountain pen are well preserved for 150-year-old ephemera and are legible for those familiar with cursive writing. As expected for an item used daily for three years there is heavy handling, corner and edge wear to cover, as well as ink stains of various sizes front and back.  Measurements: 16 inches high x  7 inches wide x 2.25 inches thick.   May be viewed by appointment.  Please refer to the images for the best determination of the condition.
