WW2 US Navy Helmet- Peace Art Art on MK2 - WW2 Helmet US Navy MK2 Talker Painted for Peace Time--U.S. Navy MK 2 helmet painted brick red and given a floral motif with the text reading – Flowers survive war, People Don’t – Helmet has been modified to hang upside down from four links to serve as a plant holder and or hanging basket. The helmet retains a fully intact gray cloth-covered foam pad liner, carries --MC-- (for McCord) and --MK 2 -- stamped at the underside of the front brim, and is --U.S.N-- marked at the underside of the back brim and the initials A.L. on the edge. Inner surfaces will require light cleaning. The exterior is in an appropriate condition for used arts and crafts items of vintage age. US Navy anti-aircraft gunners of WW2 fired from open-air fixed battle stations that buzzed with flying splinters. They were issued the distinctive Mk. 2 talker helmet, designed by a Detroit sculptor for McCord Radiator Company. It provided greater protection for gunners than the standard M-1, and its wide flaring profile allowed for use of communication equipment, binoculars, or a gas mask.
