Indian Carved Stone Head of a Hindu Deity, 16th C. - India 16th century. A carved stone head of a Hindu deity Parvati, shown with a serene expression, almond shaped eyes, full lips, and a central forehead mark. The figure wears an elaborate tiered crown with pierced and raised ornament. The reverse retains a fragmented floral halo stone element. Measurements: 12” H x 8” W x 8” D Material: Carved sandstone. Ex. Los Angeles Collection, Ex. David Stuart Galleries 1970's. Ex-Private Los Angeles Collection amassed during 1960-90s in the US and Internationally Condition: Surface wear, chips, losses, and weathering throughout. Breaks and losses to the crown, nose, ears, and lower neck area.
