Italian Gilt Brass Mounted Small Sword, 17-18th C. - Italy, 17-18th century. European rapier sword with a narrow double edged steel blade of flattened diamond form, etched with decorative scroll and panel designs along the upper portion of the blade. The gilt brass mounted hilt is finely chiseled with pierced openwork throughout guard, knuckle bow, and figural scroll decoration, with areas of silver overlay remaining throughout. The grip is wire wrapped and the blade tapers to a fine point. Measurements 36” overall 30” blade Materials: Steel, iron, silver overlay, wire, gilt brass Condition: Shows age, patina, oxidation, pitting, surface wear, rubbing, and areas of loss to the overlay. Some wear to the grip and hilt from age and handling.
