Victorian Armor Breast & Back Plates (3) Late 19th- Early 20th C. - Set of three Victorian armor elements, comprising two breastplates and one backplate, likely made for decorative castle display, theatrical use, or costume armor in the late 19th to early 20th century. One breastplate is fitted with prominent rivets and roped borders, while the other has a separate riveted Fauld at the lower edge. Breastplates and backplates were originally used together as a cuirass, protecting the front and back of the torso; the Fauld extended protection toward the waist and upper hips. These examples are in the style of earlier European armor, but appear to be later Victorian revival pieces rather than battlefield period armor. Measurements as set of 3 23”L 16”W Material: Steel, brass rivets, leather straps, and associated fittings. Ex. Los Angeles Estate Condition: Shows oxidation, pitting, surface wear, scratches, dents, discoloration, and losses throughout. Leather straps are dry, worn, and partially detached or fragmentary.
