European Forged Steel Backplate, 17th C. - Continental Europe, 17th century. Forged steel backplate, with pronounced medial ridge, rounded lower edge, and rolled borders at the neck, arms, and lower body. The plate retains leather shoulder straps and lower fastening straps, with riveted construction and visible period style patching or later repair. Measurements 15”W 15.5”L Materials: Forged steel or iron, leather straps, and iron hardware. Ex. - Los Angeles Collection, Ex. Magician of The Magic Castle Condition: Shows age, oxidation, pitting, dents, scratches, surface losses, and perforations throughout. Visible cracks, splits, patch repairs, and irregular restorations to the metal. Leather straps are dry, worn, cracked, and possibly later replacements.
