European Steel Backplate, 17th C. - Continental Europe, probably 17th century. Hammered steel rolled edge. Fitted with leather shoulder straps and side-mounted iron buckles for fastening to the corresponding breastplate or related armor components. Measurements 14”W 13.5”L Materials: Forged steel and iron, with leather straps and iron hardware. ex. - Los Angeles Collection, ex. Magician of The Magic Castle Condition: Shows age, oxidation, surface wear, scratches, dents, and areas of discoloration throughout. Leather straps are dry, cracked, worn, and partially deteriorated. Side buckles and fittings with rust and patina. Wear consistent with age.
