Monumental Chinese Blue and White Dragon Vase - A monumental Chinese porcelain temple vase of elongated baluster form, rising from a narrow foot to broad rounded shoulders and a tall cylindrical neck terminating in a dramatically flared trumpet-form mouth. The vessel is densely painted in underglaze cobalt blue with numerous sinuous five-clawed dragons shown writhing among clouds and flame-like scrolls, creating an unusually rich all-over decorative scheme. The lower body is bordered by stylized turbulent waves and rocky peaks, while additional dragons continue across the shoulder and neck. A vertical rectangular cartouche bearing Chinese characters appears prominently on the body. The exceptional scale and highly elaborate dragon decoration suggest the type of imposing decorative porcelain intended for a large architectural or ceremonial interior. Material: Porcelain with underglaze cobalt-blue decoration. Note this item exceeds in-house shipping. Los Angeles Collection
