Monumental Pair Chinese Blue & White Horse Vases - A monumental matched pair of Chinese blue and white porcelain floor or temple vases, each of tall baluster form with gently tapering body, rounded shoulders, elongated neck and broad flared mouth. The vessels are extensively painted in underglaze cobalt blue with continuous pastoral landscapes populated by numerous horses shown grazing, standing and moving through open terrain beneath mature pine trees, with distant mountains, waterways and wooded scenery extending onto the necks. The expansive equestrian decoration relates to the traditional Chinese ”Hundred Horses” theme, a subject associated with abundance, vitality and imperial equestrian imagery. The lower portions are finished with a formal paneled border of stylized floral and geometric motifs, while a repeating decorative band appears beneath the flared rims. Their unusually large scale and closely coordinated decoration give the pair a strong architectural presence and suggest use as imposing floor or hall furnishings. Material: Porcelain with underglaze cobalt-blue decoration. Condition: Both appear generally intact with age-related surface wear, firing irregularities and minor imperfections visible in the photographs. Any restoration, hairlines, rim damage or base repairs should be confirmed by physical inspection.
