Sokoto Terracotta Figure, 500BCE - 200CE - Nigeria, Sokoto Culture / Northern Nigerian Terracotta Tradition circa 500 BCE - 200 CE A terracotta figure of columnar form, modeled with a rounded lower body and elongated neck supporting a stylized head with distinctive pierced oval eyes beneath heavy brows, small nose, incised mouth, applied ears, and a pointed beard. The torso is minimally articulated with raised breast forms and small applied details, the surface retaining a reddish earthen texture with mineral accretions and age-related wear. Mounted on a custom black display stand. Height 20 in.
