Sudanese Broadsword, Mahdi Era 1881-1899 - North Africa, Sudan, Mahdi era broadsword circa late 1800s. Straight wide double edged blade with triple fuller. Crossguard in steel with straight quillion. Leather wrapped cylindrical grip with flat top. Mahdist War circa 1881-1899 was fought between Mahdist Sudanese and Khedivate of Egypt / Britan. The Mahdist were let by Muhammad Ahmad bin Abdullah the proclaimed ”Guided One” of Islam. Eventually the Mahdist succeeded and gained control of Sudan with several unsuccessful attempts to expand into other neighboring regions. Size 41 1/4” L, blade 36” L Ex-San Diego Collection
