Fine English Cased Set of Brass Barrel Flintlock Pistols by Probin
Fine antique cased set of silver mounted brass barrel flintlock pistols. Barrel is a .577 caliber running from octagonal to round with two crossed scepter proofs at breeches. Locks are elegantly engraved and marked "PROBIN". Very Fine Silver furniture made by Charles Freeth (Hallmarked "C F") and the Hallmark date letter "P" (1790). Butt caps and trigger guards with full sets of Hallmarks. Each pistol has fine silver wire inlay around the barrel tangs (100% intact) and silver side plates, one engraved "Angel" and the other "Tookie" which were probably the names the owner bestowed on these pistols. Cased in a 1709 in John Manton box which includes three way powder flask, pewter oil bottle, turn screw, vent pick, bullet mold, patches/wads, balls and ram-rod with cleaning jag/ball puller. Case with brass lid escutcheon is engraved "R Cranford, Esqre". Size case 18" L x 9" W x 2 3/4" H, pistol 13 1/2" L, barrel 8" L.
Condition: Wood loss at end of one barrel as pictured, small dent on pommel of one.
