Sterling Silver Serving Fork by Hester Bateman Family 1761-1790 - Large serving or salad fork in sterling silver signed Hester Bateman in 1788. Engraved to the handle with a griffin. Signed by Hester Bateman 1709-1794 the most famous English female silversmith of the 18th century. Hester, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Nedem married 1732 to the goldsmith John Bateman who passed 1760. Hester who has no less than 5 children was left the silversmith business and thrust herself into operation becoming the most known and talented female silversmith of the 18th century in England.
