Archers Shield w/ Medici Family Coat of Arms, Circa 1800-1890
Europe, Italian, Medici Family coat of arms circa 1800s or just after. Fine Italian shield probably for archer or town guard, crafted in an elongated shape with inslit corners to the top for use with weaponry and mobility. The shield retains a red pigment to the exterior probably once red or yellow, the central section one of the many variations of the Medici family crest composed of 6- red orbs over a blue or black background. The reverse is well worn form time and use indicating the shield is at least of the 19th century and yet to be conserved. Size 21 1/2" H x 11 1/2" W
