Embossed Roman Style Breastplate & Backplate - Beautifully embossed roman style breastplate & backplate. The breast and backplate in a brass with some riveted side and lower plates attached to strapped leather and velvet. Breastplate with a square cut neck opening probably an indication of use in late 18th or 19th century theatre. Embossed with a scene of a chariot and horses with typical Italian motifs. Early inventory marks to the backplate (22). Old repairs from use. Size 29” H, breast plate 14 1/2” W x 18” H, stand not included Ex-California Collection Condition: worn from use and with visible signs of loss to gilt surface.
