Dayak Mandau Headhunters Sword w/Scabbard
Indonesia, Dayak Peoples mandau headhunters sword with scabbard. Strong sword with a carved wood handle in zoomorphic form tightly wrapped to the grip in twisted rattan with dark natural resin coating. Blade a double edge with a downturned tip in dark carbon steel. Scabbard in all wood with linear wrapped bands of rattan. Known for their long standing tradition of taking heads and souvenirs like scalps or body parts the Headhunters have now been outlawed and Dayak peoples mostly used the sword as a working weapon such as a machete. Size 26 1/4" L, blade 18 1/4"
